The Averted School Violence Near Miss Reporting System for law enforcement officers, school officials, and mental health professionals was initiated by the National Policing Institute in 2012. It is modeled on the International Association of Fire Chief’s (IAFC) near miss reporting system, and is funded by the Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) Office at the Department of Justice.
